Pergola and things suspended

hammacs The past two weekends flew past in no time! A somewhat belated record of things been  gone and done is well overdue.

We had been lucky enough a few weeks ago to have our lean-to conservatory, aka Bootroom, snatched up on Gumtree for  a reasonable £350. Which meant that not only did we recover some money, saved the landfill and found a new home for a bunch of plastic and double-glazing, but we also saved ourselves the hassle of dismantling and getting rid of it by ourselves! Free labour! 🙂

Other developments included finishing off the wood shed, planting more plants in the raised beds, shelving the shed with the old kitchen units recovered from the garage, finishing off paving the terrace, erecting the pergola and getting rid of the loft insulation for the forthcoming house-building works.

The pergola in particular deserves a special mention, as it has really transformed the top left-hand part of the garden now and serves as an amazing sun-trap retreat away from the house, with great views on the garden and the golf course. It’s also ideal for our hammocks that we bought in Amsterdam last year… It’s now a must-place to chill out with a book and a glass of vino! There may also now be another purchase coming on later this year IBC-time for a large hammock to fit the both of us!

Mid-term, this corner retreat will be finished off with pebbles and wide wooden benches, a fire pit and maybe even a pizza oven! The pergola will hopefully be smothered in blossoming clematis as well as red-, black- and green-grape grapevines. However, considering the weather we have been having lately, with the Golf Stream shifting and all, we may never see those grapes ripen enough and sweet enough to eat!… Winemaking course may be in order.. 🙂

Going forward, we have now got a brickie lined up to start the work on the house this / next week – cannot wait! That will be the beginning of an awkward live style for a while, but we are sure it will all be worth it in the end!
